Cole turns 5, Grandpa visits from Hawaii.

It goes to show that I am a super blogger slacker that I am just now getting to a post about Cole's 5th birthday and Grandpa's visit from Hawaii. Since then many a thing has happened including a visit from Tutu from Hawaii, summer camps, swim lessons, owl pellets. So much I've probably forgotten half of it by now. Please know that it is not that I don't value all these events but that I often have to choose between sleep and blogging and lately I've been choosing sleep. As I'm finishing this up it is almost midnight.

Zecha Family, May 9th 2004.

Cole turned 5 on May 10th, the same day as Mother's Day this year. The year he was born Mother's Day was on May 9th. We've recently met a mother who says she didn't know she was pregnant until week 36. Can this be possible?! You can tell I'm pregnant in this picture right? I could tell I was pregnant too.

Happy Birthday dear boy.

Cole made me a lovely Mother's Day gift at his preschool.

Cole learns about worm drives, bearing carriers, stub shafts, axles .... a lucky boy to be raised by both a mom AND a dad.

Grampy joins the male bonding.

Checking out Coast Guard Lego set. Thank you Grammy and Grampy.

We threw Cole a Lego Birthday Party as requested later that week. Grandpa flew in from Hawaii to attend and for a nice visit.

Cole's friends Ava, Maren, Kiefer, Sean, Verde, Giuliano, Alyssa and Theron came. Grandpa, Grandma Sharon and Grandpa Dirk, Big Sister, Lauren, Grandma Margaret, Aunt Gabe and Taj all came. The kids ran around like wild things and ate Pirate's Booty, cake and ice cream.

Cole and Lego Cake. Golden Layer Cake. Recipe by Marc Bittman in How to Cook Everything. Buttery goodness!! Did Cole even try a bite? No, of course not!

4 children participate in planned game of Build the Tallest Lego Tower.

Sean, Verde, and Giuliano.

Best friend from Victory Heights preschool in Seattle. Ava.

G-man. Another Lego aficionado.

One of two lego tables Alex made the day before the party. He's one handy fella!

Christina and Lauren. Lauren has been a super star this past year, watching the kids when Alex and I go out. She's another big sister and one of Christina's closest friends.

Opening presents mayhem.

Grandpa, Cole and Audrey assembling the coast guard tower.

Does Audrey look like she's got the H1N1 Flu? We were all sick running up to Grandpa's visit, through and for a week or more after. Grandpa was unlucky enough to catch the same bug and carry it back to HI. Sorry about that!

It was such a nice visit if just a bit too short due to the nasty flu bug.
