Christina Graduation Update
Christina and her Roosevelt High School peers were recognized this evening at the Senior Award Program. Christina received the Western Washington University Multicultural Achievement Program Scholarship. She has decided to attend WWU in the fall, the first day of classes will be September 24. She will be living on campus and is very excited to expand her freedom. On tap for summer is work to earn some spending money and a trip to Mexico with her boyfriend and his family.

Take me out to the ballgame!
Some friends made us a generous gift of 2 Mariners tickets for last nights game against the L.A. Angels. Cole and I headed downtown for our date while Alex and Audrey relaxed at home.
We lucked out with free street parking on 6th and Jackson. $0, but it was a long walk to the stadium with Cole on my shoulders the whole way
We had hotdogs for dinner, passing by the guy who was yelling "hotdogs" at the top of his lungs and instead choosing the stand with a line. $10

Cole brought the mitt he got for his 2nd birthday (from our good friend Jackie who is also a HUGE baseball fan) in case a fly ball dropped in our laps. He originally thought we would be PLAYING baseball instead of watching baseball so the realization that there was no way a fly ball was making it up to the 300 level was pretty disappointing.

Even though I performed a miracle by getting him to take a nap earlier in the day, Cole was still too tired to get excited about the game. We got some crackerjacks ($2) because they're in the song but Cole didn't like them. He did want to see the train so we walked around the stadium for a better look but no trains came by and it was starting to get dark. Meanwhile Cole asked for chocolate covered strawberries and since I'm a sucker I got them ($5.75) but he didn't want them after the first bite.
After 4 innings we left to get back to the car before it was too dark. As a treat we took the bicycle cab back to Jackson ($10). It was very fun and I decided it was worth it even if only to save my aching shoulders. Cole weighs approximately 40 pounds and that gets pretty heavy pretty quickly!

Senior Prom
Christina is dancing the night away as I type this post. Her last year at Roosevelt High School is winding down with graduation looming less than a month away. She looked stunning in the dress that Sharon made for her. She, Daniel, and 9 other couples and parents met at a neighborhood park to take pictures.

Jam Packed Day
The whole month of May has been crazy with fun filled events but especially this week. Cole, Audrey and I went to Cole's preschool for the end of the year picnic. There was food, face painting, bubbles, balloons, stomp rockets, rocket balloons, and a truck to paint! A particularly brave co-op dad parked his pickup on the grass and the kids got to paint it with washable tempera paint.

Lucky for us there was a hose to wash the kids off after this project!

We played in the 90 degree heat for three hours, then jumped in the pool at home. The backyard was at it's finest today - lush grass, shade from the big cherry tree, and lots of things to explore. Cole discovered a snail this evening and had a great time collecting food for it.

Cole's Beautiful Artwork
Once I tried to recycle a piece of Cole's art that hung in the window for a good 9 months and was faded. Cole saw it in the recycle bin and said plaintively, "Don't throw away my beautiful artwork." Dagger in the heart. He's right though, I shouldn't throw away his work and mostly I don't. Up until recently his pencil and marker works looked very much like scribbles but he's had a breakthrough and tonight drew Santa!! I walked into his room and he was concentrating on drawing. I noticed that the picture actually looked like a person and asked him to tell me about it. Turns out Santa brings presents to Rescue Heroes and needs a protective helmet for his hat!
Here is a drawing of the Rescue Hero Rip Rockefeller with a story. Cole did this at preschool 2 weeks ago but I wasn't as floored I think because the figure didn't have arms and legs like Santa does. This is also clearly a drawing of a person. A person wearing orange. He also signed his name ... C O L E, Cole as he often says.

Cole was an absolute delight today. I had so much fun talking to him and reading books. We spent a large part of Audrey's morning nap snuggling in my bed reading How I Captured a Dinosaur, The Berenstain Bears and the Truth, and a Richard Scarry lift the flap book.
We had the first of several birthday celebrations tonight for Cole. (He'll celebrate at Disneyland I'm sure and we are throwing a pool party for him in June so he can have fun with his little buddies) Grandma Sharon, Grandpa Dirk and Aunt Fran came over to have cupcakes and rocky road ice cream. Alex and I got Cole a backpack for his upcoming trip and he loves it. He spent the last part of the night filling it with various objects and walking around the house making up stories. I'm too tired to download the pictures tonight.

Summer is on it's way!
We broke out the kiddie pool this Sunday because believe it or not it was warm enough! 60 degrees is pretty warm for Seattle. We had friends over in the afternoon to play in the backyard. Cole, V, and G had fun washing the tricycle singing "Workin' at the Carwash". They also played in the hammock, sandbox and pool. Unfortunately the sand and the pool water got well mixed.
The kiddie pool after about 30 minutes of play. Would you swim in this water? The white dots are cherry blossoms. They rained down like snow when the wind picked up or the kids gave the branches a shake.
Another warm day today and the kids at Cole's preschool had extra time to play outside. Cole made a submarine at the water table. One of the really great things about his co-operative preschool is that the school is in a community center at a small neighborhood park. We put toys out as part of the set up for the day and lots of neighborhood kids come by to play with the trucks, balls, and tricycles.

Cole's teacher incorporated baking frequently this year as a "discovery activity". They've made bread, gingerbread men, and banana bread muffins a couple times. They make it in the morning and get to eat it for snack. Today they made muffins and they were very tasty.

They also started to make hand prints for Mother's Day.
Speaking of Mother's Day, Cole will be gone to Disneyland! Audrey and I will have to make breakfast in bed for ourselves since Alex will be at work. boo hoo I'm sad but Cole will have SO MUCH fun and I will enjoy hearing all his stories. Much more to come on Cole's first trip to Disneyland. This is a special big boy birthday gift from Grammy and Grampy.

*Happy Birthday Audrey*
Dear sweet Audrey turned one on April 23. Her dad was sleeping due to being on night shift that week so we didn't have a big celebration but we did take some pictures, open presents and have ice cream!
Audrey is learning to walk on her own schedule. She likes to be led around but she can get anywhere pretty quickly by crawling so she doesn't have enough incentive yet. Once she realizes she can carry stuff AND be mobile we'll probably see immediate improvement.
Proud girl. Audrey has two new teeth on the top and in front. She claps her hands, plays peek-a-boo, waves bye bye, is understanding more language, saying mama, and complies with simple requests like "no eat, dog food, yucky!" or "hand me the toy."

My mom came down to stay the night and help us celebrate. Audrey had vanilla ice cream but no cake all over the face pictures yet. Cole helped her blow out the candle.
